Broadway Play Publishing Inc was established in New York City in 1982 with a mission to publish and license the stage performance rights of the finest contemporary American plays.

Our growing catalog consists of over 1,200 plays and over 400 authors, among them such theatrical luminaries as Constance Congdon, María Irene Fornés, A R Gurney, Tony Kushner, Neil LaBute, Richard Nelson, Eric Overmyer, José Rivera, Naomi Wallace, and many others. Our authors have been produced on Broadway and Off, in London’s West End, and in theaters across the United States and around the world. They have won Nobel Prizes, Pulitzer Prizes, Tony Awards, Obie Awards, the MacArthur Genius Grant, Guggenheim Fellowships, and National Endowment for the Arts grants.

From the delirious hilarity of THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED) to the extravagantly imaginative ON THE VERGE OR THE GEOGRAPHY OF YEARNING to the epic brilliance of ANGELS IN AMERICA, our catalog is distinguished by intellectually and theatrically adventurous works. We are proud to make all of the plays in our catalog available to you.

Christopher W D Gould, Publisher

Christopher W D Gould graduated from Tufts University having majored in Theater. Upon arrival in New York, he wrote theater reviews for Backstage, features for Other Stages, and read plays for the Women’s Project. He then had a three-year apprenticeship at Samuel French Inc before founding Broadway Play Publishing Inc. In 1990 he made a foray into play producing with PRELUDE TO A KISS, which ran for over a year on Broadway and was nominated for a Tony award for Best Play. As a result of that experience, he was a Tony voter for ten years and saw almost every show on Broadway during that period. Mr Gould is on the board of The Vineyard Theatre. He has a wife, two sons and a daughter, a Certificat Elementaire from Le Cordon Bleu, and he bicycles, sails, plays squash (1-time National Champion in his age group in singles, 2-time National Champion in his age group in doubles), and occasionally brews beer.
