Home of the Great Pecan

Stephen Bittrich's first play was a 30-minute STAR TREK tribute in junior high school where he penned himself into the starring role of Captain Kirk. After college, he moved to New York to become an actor, but soon put his English major skills to good use writing plays during the slow acting periods. He often wrote late at night during one of his survival jobs as a graveyard shift security guard.  When his daughter was born he focused on playwriting rather than the itinerant life of the actor. For over a decade and a half he worked primarily with The Drilling Company Theater on the Upper West Side of Manhattan where many of his plays were produced.  He's found that working with a group he considers his "artistic family" has been fertile ground for developing stories. He also writes for the screen and was a Top 30 Finalist in the first Project Greenlight contest (also an HBO reality show) with his screenplay DESERT RITES, based upon his play of the same name, and more recently his screenplay HEALER was purchased by Past Present Productions.
